Established in 1988 by Duncan Walker, then a heart surgeon at the old Killingbeck Hospital in Leeds, the Children's Heart Surgery Fund is a charity providing support for children and adults born with Congenital Heart Defects and their families. Since 1988, the CHSF has awarded around £3 million in grants to the heart unit, its patients and their families. CHSF provides valuable equipment, resources and research, as well as providing a support service for both the children and their families along the way.

Based at the Leeds General Infirmary, CHSF covers the regions of Yorkshire, Humberside and North Lincolnshire. Around 400 children from these regions need open heart surgery every year. They aim to ensure these children have the best possible chance of survival and to help their families in whatever way needed during their stay in hospital. Their work is overseen by a board of Trustees – made up of clinical staff, parents and business leaders.

Cash for Kids responds to the needs of children in our communities so they can live life to the full and realise their individual potential. In 2015 they raised over £1.3 million and supported over 87,000 of the neediest local children in Leeds & West Yorkshire.

Every penny raised stays in Leeds & West Yorkshire. Cash for Kids is a grant giving charity and supports individual children, children from groups and children's charities where children are sick, deprived and in need of extra support. By supporting Cash for Kids you are supporting thousands of the neediest children in Leeds & West Yorkshire and every penny raised locally stays in the local area to make a significant difference.

What we've been up to lately

Chairty Work for Cash For Kids

Here at YPP, we are always trying our best to make sure we raise money regularly for our chosen charities. During the month of September, we held a bake-off style competition where our staff members worked their magic in the kitchen!

We had some great entries from Belgian Chocolate Brownies, Lemon love cake to Jammy Dodger Cupcakes (and they tasted unbelievable). It was a fantastic effort by everyone and we managed to raise over £125.00 just through selling our yummy cakes. Make sure you keep a look out for any other fundraising event that we do, we are always trying to think outside the box to create opportunities to raise money for valuable causes.

Fearing the heights

7 fearless members of the YPP team abseiled down 10-storey building

On Sunday 9th June 2019, 7 brave staff members successfully took part in an abseil down Leeds Beckett’s 10-storey Portland Building at the University’s City Campus. For most of the YPP team, it was a completely new experience; nevertheless, in this situation they were happy to push themselves for a great cause!
